About The GMDDA
The Greater Merseyside Digital Development Agency (GMDDA) is committed to ensuring that the region’s people and businesses benefit from the new opportunities created by the digital revolution. In February 2007 the GMDDA published it’s new strategy Digital Opportunities in the Liverpool City Region.
The GMDDA is is guided by a strategic board made up of representatives of the Public, Private, Community and Voluntary sectors. Their role is to help identify digital development priorities for the region, seek projects to address them and to work to secure the resources to do so. The structure of the GMDDA and how it fits into the regional setup can be seen in the diagram: (click for full size)
The GMDDA is not an incorporated body and does not undertake projects directly itself. Rather, it works with appropriate local partners to make things happen. This mostly operates through our two ‘work streams‘ which are Transforming Businesses and Transforming Communities
The GMDDA participates in various regional strategic programmes, including:
- The GMDDA manages the ICT Cross-Cutting Theme of the Merseyside Objective One Programme on behalf of Government Office Northwest and advises applicants on the ICT elements of their bids.
- The GMDDA leads on the ‘Digital Development’ priority (one of sixteen priorities) in the Merseyside Action Plan, which is managed by The Mersey Partnership. The plan aims to highlight areas for public funding interventions over the next five years.
- The GMDDA Strategy Board advises the Sub Regional Partnership Board on the ‘Digital Development’ agenda.
- The GMDDA was also recently involved in a foresighting study on the future of the North West. Experian Business Strategies, including the Future Foundation, are working with the North West Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to help develop the study. The aim is to explore how foresight through forecasting, forward-thinking and identifying priorities can improve the effectiveness of policy-making and support the Regional Economic Strategy. There is a need to “future proof” regional economic policy by anticipating future developments. A core part of this study was to host a series of ten scenario workshops to provide opportunities for discussion and development with policy makers and engage effectively with leading academics, industry leaders and other experts in the chosen topic areas. The GMDDA participated in the ICT Workshop as part of this work.
- The chair of the GMDDA, David Parr, sits on the recently formed Northwest Flexible Working Group.
- The GMDDA also sits on the Greater Merseyside Local Government Policy& Strategy (ICT) Group.
